A Christmas Wish
I sit by the fireplace and muse,
Upon Christmas and its simple truths.
The truth of love and the birth of a boy
Are gifts from above bringing comfort and joy.
Everlasting for centuries, decades, and years,
Love warms my heart, as I recall loved ones so dear.
I sip my cocoa and delight,
In the warmth of the fireplace and the twinkling lights.
Reflections in ornaments cause me to shiver
Flashes of red, green, and silver.
Reminding me of the light years ago,
Shining so brightly, leading to a manger below.
And how the light shines in each of us if we wish to be led,
Illuminating a world full of colors, blue, yellow, and red.
Curled up in the chair in a robe and slippers,
I watch the firelight dance and flicker.
And I think of the wise men and the gift wisdom brings;
And how it travels like the sweet sound of a Christmas bell ring.
The gift of wisdom, more precious than myrrh, frankincense, and gold,
Is one to be shared, sustaining us as we grow old.
Wisdom grows with experience and a lifetime of living
And the beauty of wisdom is that the gift keeps on giving.
And as I grow sleepy I think of peace and
How peace comforts me, like this blanket of fleece
Wrapped around my legs keeping me warm
And I hope peace will wrap the world and keep it from harm.
The simple truths of Christmas, peace, light, wisdom, and love
Are wonderous gifts bestowed from above,
Seen through the birth and life of a child so dear
And meant to remain with us year after year.
May your Christmas be filled with love, peace, wisdom, and light.
May the warmth of the season bring a New Year of delight.
